THE PERD PROJECT

The Promoting Equal Rights for Women and Girls with Disabilities (PERD) Project is a Netherlands (Dutch) Embassy Ghana-funded project being jointly implemented by the Planned Parenthood Association of Ghana (PPAG), African Centre for Human Rights and Sustainable Development (AfCHuRSD), and Women In Need (WIN).  Interventions are tailored to promote the fundamental human rights of Women and Girls with disabilities (WGDs) both in and out of school, particularly their rights to employment and protection from Sexual Gender Based Violence (SGBV) in Ghana.

The Project which was launched at Mamponteng in the Kwabre East of the Ashanti Region, brought together all the implementing partners, Representatives of the Dutch Embassy, Kwabere East Municipal Assembly Executives, Chiefs and other stakeholders to official kick start the project implementation and pledged their commitment to the project’s success.

Project Goal

To promote the fundamental human rights of WGDs, particularly the rights to employment and the protection from Sexual and Gender Based Violence (SGBV) in Ghana by the end of August 2024.

Specific Objectives

This project seeks to address three (3) key objectives: 

1. To contribute towards the protection of fundamental human rights particularly sexual and gender-based violence against women and girls with disabilities in Ghana by the end of August 2024.
2. To empower Women and Girls with Disabilities to pursue employment opportunities by the end of August 2024.
3. To advocate for the development and implementation of inclusive equitable employment policies for WGDs in public and private sector institutions in Ghana by the end of August 2024.
4. To advocate for the passage of the AABill into law by 2024.

Project Outcomes

1. Enabling environment for the elimination of Violence against women improved. 
2. Women and Girls with Disabilities empowered to pursue better economic opportunities.
3. Socio-cultural, political and legal environment improved for WGDs to be employed in deserving jobs.
