Africa Centre for Human Rights and Sustainable Development with funding from the Netherlands embassy, organized a one day capacity building training in life skills for women and girls in business in the Sagnarigu municipality in Tamale, northern region.
The participants were hairdressers, market women, seamstresses, food vendors among others. The training which was facilitated by Mr Rayan Iddi Yussif, sought to build their capacities in the area of financial literacy skills. Participants were taken through book keeping, customer service and business branding.
At the training, the Head of Social Welfare and Community Development at the Sagnarigu Municipal Assembly, Hajia Rashida Mohammed also sensitized participants on the 5% District Assembly Common Fund (DACF) she took them through the procedures of accessing the fund. She encouraged them to seek clarification from the Assembly on issues related to the fund and urged them to apply for assistance through the fund management committee, stating specifically what they require the money for.
Madam Juliana Kwara, the Gender desk officer for the Sagnarigu municipal Assembly called for regular engagement between the leadership of the PwD groups and the Municipal Assembly to ensure that all their members were well informed about the 5% DACF.
At the end of the day, AfCHuRSD, trained 31 women and Girls with disabilities in financial literacy skills in the Sagnarigu Municipality who expressed their joy and gratitude for the opportunity. They pledged to apply the knowledge gained to improve their businesses.
